Mario Cantú papers, 1957-1998.

The Mario Cantú Papers consist of clippings, printed materials, correspondence, photographs, legal and business documents, and reports about or which belonged to Cantú. The collection contains materials about his family, restaurant business, activities with which he was involved, and his arrest and trial for employing undocumented workers. Also incorporated are materials that Mario Cantú collected about various events and individuals.

Mario Cantú was a well-known restaurant owner and civil rights activist in San Antonio, Tex. He was born Mauro Casiano Cantú, Jr. in San Antonio in 1937 and spent most of his life and career there. Cantú managed restaurants in San Antonio, Paris, and New Jersey. He was involved with many Mexican American civil rights organizations, and helped to plan and finance various Chicano activities and community events.
